Salmonella (Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein) National Class Action

Merchant Law Group is launching class proceedings in regards to Salmonella (Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein). This litigation is being pursued as a class action on behalf of all Canadians, who purchased recalled products containing Salmonella bacteria. An updated list of recalled items is available at www.inspection.gc.ca.

The Canadian recall list includes a range of potato chips, soup mixes, vegetable dips, and Quaker tomato and basil mini rice cakes. More than two dozen items are on the latest Canadian Food Inspection Agency warning list. The move follows a recall by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that currently lists over a hundred products. All the products contain hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP) produced by Basic Food Flavors Inc. in Las Vegas. HVP is a flavour-enhancing, grain-based additive used in processed foods such as some soups, hot dogs, chilis, stews, dips, salad dressings, gravies, frozen dinners and snack foods. HVP is often not specified on a package's ingredients.
