Workers' Compensation Widows

On Thursday, May 1, 2008, Patrick Alberts, from the Merchant Law Group, argued the Certification Application for the class action seeking to reinstate the Workers’ Compensation pensions for those widows and widowers who had their spousal pensions terminated upon remarriage. Mr. Justice Wimmer of the Saskatchewan Court of Queen’s Bench reserved his decision on certification.

Present in the Court Room were 28 Workers’ Compensation widows and their current spouses. Patricia Horner and Jean Martin, two of the named Plaintiffs, travelled from Saskatoon. Others travelled from as far as away as Prince Albert. The support of this group was much appreciated by Merchant Law Group.

As soon as the decision of Mr. Justice Wimmer is handed down, we will be posting it on this website.

In Saskatchewan, the Certification Application is scheduled to be heard on May 1, 2008 before Mr. Justice Wimmer.
