Merchant Law Group LLP has launched class action litigation in Canada against the Federal Government for its use of prolonged administrative segregation on individual inmates, serving in federal prisons or penitentiaries. The litigation seeks financial compensation for affected individuals who were subject to prolonged administrative segregation in federal penitentiaries.

Administrative segregation has been demonstrated to cause or make worse mental health problems. Its use is linked to higher rates of additional incarceration. This class action is being launched on behalf of a proposed class consisting of individuals who were held in prolonged administrative segregation in Provincial Correctional Centres.
