Our firm is diligently pursuing this class action litigation against the manufacturers of Yaz/Yasmin on behalf of all affected Canadians.
Our law firm has received hundreds of complaints from Yaz/Yasmin users across Canada, including women who have suffered blood clots, pulmonary embolisms, gallbladder removals, and other serious medical conditions, which our class action lawsuits allege were caused due to Yaz/Yasmin. This class action litigation is intended to ensure that all affected Canadians receive significant financial compensation for the harm they have suffered, and seeks compensation for any individuals in Canada who have used Yaz or Yasmin.
Yasmin and Yaz contain a "Fourth Generation" Progestin. It is asserted in the lawsuits that Yasmin and Yaz are different from other combined hormonal birth control pills in that they contain drospirenone, a progestin that is unlike other progestins available in Canada, and was never before marketed in Canada or the United States prior to its use in Yasmin and Yaz. Yaz contains the same estrogen component, ethinyl estradiol, that has been used in lower dose birth control pills for decades. However, drospirenone is a new type of progestin and is considered a "fourth generation" progestin. No other birth control pills in Canada contain drospirenone. It is alleged drospirenone interacts differently with ethinyl estradiol compared to other progestins, such that it does not sufficiently counterbalance the clotting effects of estrogen as do other progestins, particularly the second generation progestins. Another concern is that drospirenone causes an increase in potassium levels in the blood, which can lead to a condition known as hyperkalemia if the potassium levels become too high.
We encourage you to keep any packaging, prescription records, or other documents you may have regarding Yaz or Yasmin. Please note, our law firm is not in a position to provide any form of medical advice, and if you have any questions of that nature you should refer them to your doctor.
