News: 1 killed, several injured in rollover on Hwy 813 north of Athabasca

ATHABASCA, AB – The Athabasca RCMP is investigating a fatal, single-vehicle rollover that took place on Secondary Highway 813 on Wednesday.

According to Canada Police Report, the incident happened about 120 kilometres north of Athabasca sometime before 11 p.m. on April 21. A preliminary investigation found that a pickup truck had been traveling southbound when its 78-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to run into a ditch and overturn several times.

Fire rescue services extricated multiple people from the vehicle, and medical responders pronounced a 75-year-old female passenger dead at the scene. Four other people were treated for unspecified injuries.

Poor road conditions may have played a role in the crash. An RCMP investigation is ongoing.
