News: Passenger killed in crash near Fort MacLeod after fleeing traffic stop

FORT MACLEOD, AB – A passenger was killed in a collision after an attempted traffic stop on Saturday evening, Global News reports.

Nanton RCMP say police received reports of a vehicle driving erratically at about 7 p.m. on March 27. An officer attempted to pull the vehicle over, but it instead sped away in the direction of Claresholm.

About 45 minutes later, units with Fort MacLeod RCMP discovered the vehicle in a ditch on Highway 810, roughly 15 kilometres south of its intersection with Highway 3. Fort MacLeod fire crews extricated two people from the wreckage. A passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, while the seriously injured driver was taken by helicopter to Foothills Hospital in Calgary.

Police were continuing to investigate as of Sunday.
