News: Sleeping passenger wakes up, drives off in bus

CALGARY, AB – Police have recovered a city bus that was briefly stolen by one of its passengers, CTV News reports.

The theft occurred at about 10 p.m. last night, when the bus’s driver pulled over near the intersection of 17 Avenue and 33 Street S.E. to seek help for a passenger who had passed out. The driver got out of the bus and was looking for assistance when the passenger woke up and drove off in the bus.

No one else was on the bus at the time.

Police caught up with the purloined transit vehicle not long afterwards, near the intersection of 26 Street and 24 Avenue S.E.

They took the woman into custody. Charges are pending.
