EDMONTON, AB – An Edmonton police officer was struck and injured during a traffic stop on Monday, shutting down a portion of Whitemud Drive.

Global News reports that the collision happened at about in the westbound lanes of Whitemud near the overpass to 91 Street NW.

Police say the officer was stepping in front of his unmarked patrol car when a commercial vehicle collided with it, shoving the cruiser into the officer and then the vehicle he had pulled over.

The police officer was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

It is unclear whether anyone else was injured.

The driver of the commercial vehicle that hit the cruiser remained at the scene. Unspecified charges against that individual are said to be pending.
